Musicality of My Son

My son wants guitar lessons. He has been begging me for the better part of two years for them. I don’t want my son to have guitar lessons. Firstly, because I don’t believe that guitar’s are a first good instrument to learn how to play and secondly because I don’t like the potential uses for the guitar. I would much prefer that my son take violin lessons. He has an amazingly wide hand span and I think he would make a wonderful violinist. Unfortunately, my son does not want to play the violin. He wants to play the guitar. Many days he runs around the house playing the air guitar and I shudder imagining the shrieking and twanging he would make with a real guitar. I have suggested that maybe we could get a piano and he could begin taking piano lessons. I told him that the piano is a great instrument on which to learn music theory. My son still wants guitar lessons.
